As many of you know, I was able to go on a quick trip to New York City two weekends ago. I have been to New York plenty of times, but believe it or not, I had never seen a Broadway Musical there. I have seen plenty of shows when they have toured, but never on Broadway. Even though I was only there for the weekend, I was determined to watch a musical. I had recently heard about “On Your Feet”, a show based on the life of Latin superstar Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio Estefan. Growing up with a Cuban mother, I really really wanted to see this show. Luckily for us, we scored tickets and it was the best money I have ever spent in the city!
I knew a little about Gloria’s career prior to the musical. Mostly about her time with The Miami Sound Machine, and her life after the accident. However, On Your Feet, touches on Gloria’s life from the beginning. We see her as a young girl growing up, the struggle of her family coming to Miami during the beginning of Cuba’s Communism, as well as the importance her family played in her career both positively and negatively. Of course, there’s some romance, as we see how Emilio and Gloria became one of the most powerful couples in the music industry. All of these stories are told in between uplifting, fun and beautiful songs, with amazing dance numbers.
I truly felt every emotion during this show. I cried, I laughed, I cried again, I dance and I walked out wanting to walk right back in and watch it again. It’s probably one my favorite musicals to date, and I highly recommend you go watch it.
But I won’t be in New York anytime soon Laila? Well, fear not, because On Your Feet is touring, and is actually going to be in Orlando at the Dr. Phillips Center During their 2017-2018 Season. You can get more information here and make sure to say Hi, as I will definitely be watching it again.
Until Next Time Littlefinders!
I received complimentary show tickets for the Orlando show. As always all opinions are 100 percent my own!
